The lights are off at Hyde Park Corner, but the message from SA Fashion Week AW27 is just getting started.

SAFW AW27 was less about fleeting trends and more about identity. South African fashion is done asking for permission.

Gert-Johan Coetzee didn't just return to the runway he returned with a point. After years away from SAFW, his collection brought back full glamour, but with sentiment and storytelling. It was the most saved, most shared show of the week. Proof that South Africans don't just want a dress, we want a moment.

If there was one shape to remember, it's this: strong shoulders, cinched waist, soft fabric.

David Tlale, Ephymol and the new guard all did it differently, but the message was the same. Power, but make it feminine. It's sharp enough for a boardroom, soft enough for a wedding. You will see this blazer everywhere by February.

This was the quiet shift Proudly SA and SAFW pushed this year. Designers didn't just show clothes, they spoke about where the textile came from, who wove it, who beaded it.

It highlighted locally sourced fabrics, handcraft techniques and collaboration with local artisans. The emphasis was placed on traceability of materials and preservation of craft.

In a world of fast fashion, local is no longer just a nice idea. It's the luxury. And South Africans are asking for it. Off the runway, the attitude was louder than the clothes. Skin that looks like skin. Slicked-back buns. One bold eye.

After two years of heavy filters and clean-girl minimalism, SA beauty is going back to presence. Less filter, more face.

SA Fashion Week AW27 was presented as the official Autumn/Winter 2027 showcase for South Africa, forming part of the national fashion calendar.
