Through his platform de mode journaliste and contributions numerous magazines like Colot Theory magazine and the Grey Zine, Mkhetwa explores fashion beyond clothing. He examines its intersections with culture, identity, and expression. Beginning his career as a fashion photographer, Mkhetwa transitioned into journalism, and today his work sits at the intersection of both practices. His eye for image-making informs his written voice, allowing him to capture not only the look of fashion but also its cultural weight and context. Over his time working as a fashion journalist, he has covered runway shows, designer collections, and editorial projects across South Africa and abroad, including South African Fashion Week, Braam Fashion Week, SA Menswear Week, and most recently Africa Fashion Week London, which he covered through a remote media correspondence program. His work celebrates the craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural significance of African designers, bridging the gap between insider knowledge and public engagement. Mkhetwa is also the curator of the SA Runway Archives, an ongoing project documenting South African fashion history and runway moments for contemporary audiences and future generations. Mkhetwaʼs journalism combines meticulous observation with a narrative-driven approach, offering audiences not just what designers create, but why it matters. Whether through written articles, visual storytelling, or video content, he brings attention to the skill, vision, and innovation defining African fashion today.
